Brochure Beauties #10: Pause for Living (Coca-Cola, Spring 1968)
Some of the most enduring brands in American history built their success not just on selling a quality product (or a popular one), but by building a lifestyle image associated with a product. This was never more true, in my humble opinion, than in the mid-20th century.
Take, as just one example, the “Pause for Living” series of lifestyle brochures published by Coca-Cola. In the pages of these brochures, the association between their soda and a highly fashionable, suburbanized way of life was vividly presented. Here are some samples from the Spring 1968 edition (click to enlarge).
I never once thought about how my choice of soft drink could inspire or complement my choice of home decor, but I sure am rethinking that now. And hey, I sure am mighty thirsty too!
